Amfilochia, the so-called “bride of Amvrakikos”, nests between two hills inside Amvrakikos Bay, offering a sheltered port, as well as an intermediate station for the travelers from Aitoloakarania to Ioannina, Preveza or Lefkada.
Until 1907 it was known as Karvasaras, from the turkish Caravanserai, which means roadside inn for caravans. In Amfilochia, township of about 5000 residents, you will find plenty accommodation options but also many seaside restaurants.
Every year on the 3rd of October a celebration is organized, continuing a tradition since 1908, when a Royal Decree established “emporopanigiris” (fair trade). Nowadays, the commercial character it used to have is altered but yet remains a reason to gather.
