On both sides of this important passage towards the Corinthian bay, were built two fortresses since the ancient times. According to Thoukididis, great naval battles took place here. In the location, where the ancient fortress used to be, Sultan Vagiazi II built in 1499 the Castle of Roumeli that exists up to today.
The lighthouse, which dates back to the 19th century, is of particular interest. After the preservation organized by the Ministry of Culture, the castle is now open to the public and lots of events take place during the summer.
Opening hours: Daily 9:00-17:00 except Monday
