The Monastery of Panagia Ampelakiotissa- Agiou Polikarpou is located on the Ampelakiotissa village, which it’s almost 13 km far from Ano Chora. The monastery it was founded at 1456 and it is also known as “Nafpaktia’s Ark”. According to the tradition, when the Turks conquered Abelakia, a village in Thessaly, they throw away the icon in order to carry away by river’s flow, and to be lost. But, at the 15 of August 1455 the icon of Panagia was found in the oak tree which is located at the back yard of the monastery. So therefore this place was chosen to build the monastery, to honor Panagia. At the monastery you will also have the chance to admire an impressive wooden temple from the 18th century, and an embroidered epitaph, a work of Mariora, a woman from Constantinople and a present from Bishop Lidorikio Theoklito at 1735.
