This gorge is formed between the mountains of Makrynoros (area of Apodotia) and Agios Arsenios (area of Efpalio). The river Mornos (ancient Dafnos) runs the gorge. This area was a passage from Nafpaktia towards Dorida and from the coastal lands towards Katafigio, Anavriti, Kentriki etc. It was through this canyon that in 267 b.C. an expeditionary force of about 30,000 Gaels passed as it invaded Greece, only to be crushed by the united Greek forces under the leadership of the Aetolians, in location Kokkalia, on the northern boundaries of the Municipality of Domnista in Evrytania.
A bridge is located here since the ancient times. Nowadays, you will have the chance to see the impressive, stone, single-arched Kefalogefiro that stands there from the years of the Turkish Occupation. The sides of the gorge are covered in dense vegetation and in those that are not facing the sun, the plants have reached their maximum level of development (Climax phase). Here we come across a thick forest of perennial species, such as holm oaks, hollies, mock privets and pubescent oaks, an ideal habitat for wild boar. In the northern side the horizon is dominated by the imposing and known in Nafpaktia, Amoranitika rocks. We may access this part of the gorge from the villages Golemi and Katafygio, while its southern side is accessible by trail from the village Trikorfo in Dorida.
