Varasova mountain is abruptly rising above the sea in a short distance to the banks of river Evinos. This limestone mountain offers a wide range of climbing routes and is especially known to the lovers of the sport. The mountain is also called Holy Mountain of Aetolia, since many ascetics used to live in its caves during the Byzantine years. The remnants of the chapels they had built can still be seen. Most well-known is the chapel of Agios Nikolaos, where a liturgy is taking place once every year. The mountain is 917 meters high, whilst on its foothills freezing water is streaming out of Kryoneri spring, which gave its name to the area and the beach on its base.
The mountains silhouette is a beautiful spectacle, either seen from below or from far away. The high point is its reflection on the sea during the sunrise or the sunset.
