According to Greek mythology, the second largest river of Aetolia was named after the king of Kalidona Evinos, who was drowned in its waters disappointed from the abduction of his daughter Marpissa by Idas.
The curved path of the river, reason of its second name “Fidaris” (“snaky” in Greek), crosses a 92 kilometers long route, starting from Vardousia and ending at the Gulf of Patra between Evinochori and Kryoneri.
Along its route it passes from the evergreen sceneries of Nafpaktia and offers, thanks to its wide and narrow passages, ideal conditions for sports such as canoe-kayak and rafting. Near the bridge of Banias there are some modern facilities, the second best integrated in Greece after the Olympic facilities in Athens. The visitors have the chance to get to know the area through hiking trails, by bike or through horse riding.
