Karytena's Castle is built on the crest of the hill above the dorp and is at least 110 meters in length and 40 meters in width. Its walls are up to 7 meters in height and 2 meters in width. It was the capital of one of the 12 Baronies of Franks during the period of their reign. The outstanding and mighty castle of Karytena, which was built in the mid-thirteenth century, added to the city's strategic importance and secured it effectively. The ruins of ancient Vrenthi, which was built in the same location, were used for its construction.
