Near the temple of St Peter's, on the peak of Parnonas called Malevou, is a monastery dedicated to Panagia (Virgin Mary). In its area is the chapel of Agios Nilos, where he spent his monastic life in the 17th century. The old monastery was built in 717 AD and destroyed in the late 18th century by Turks, because the monks participated in the Revolution. During the Occupation in Greece, it was operating as a hospital for the rebels and was, therefore, bombed by the German forces. However, it was reopened in 1949 by nuns. The finishing stroke was an earthquake that took place a few years later and, afterwards, the monastery was reconstructed. A miraculous icon painted by Evangelist Lucas and is kept in the monastery. It is said that the icon gushes Agios Miros (Holy Oil) since 1964 and many patients' recoveries are attributed to it.
