The citizens of Tripolis visit the Varson monastery regularly. It is a stauropegial monastery with a communal disposition. It is said that the first monastery was built in the 11th century and flourished during the mid-14th century. Moreover, it was used as a strategic locality in the Siege of Tripolis in 1821. The four-columnar domical temple and its luxuriant icon-painting offer moments of tranquility. In its sanctum lies the relic of the martyr Dimitrios and a part of martyr Paul's relics. Every year, the feretory with the relics of the martyrs is transferred in Tripolis on May 22, where a pilgrimage and a litany take place in a special ceremony.
