Rizokastro is located in Aliveri. It is only accessible by 4x4 cars, due to the rough road and the high altitude. It is a Frankish castle, built on the rocks of the cliffs. It used to protect the city from the enemies from the sea, who would face difficulties reaching the city either way, because of the rough ground. During the Greek revolution of 1821 it was used as a prison for the Turkish prisoners.
