“Mprousos”, as it is also known, is located at an altitude of 900 meters and 50 kilometers away of Agrinio and 33 kilometers away of Karpenisi. During the past few years, the village has been utilized in matters of tourism as it is not only picturesque but has also lots of sights such as the monastery of Prousos at a short distance. Several significant personalities were born in this village: the teacher and patron of the village Anastasios Agathidis (1794-1881) that built the “Agathidios” library, the General and politician Georgios Kondylis (1879-1936) and Christoforos Katsampas that built the “Katsampio” boarding house and gymnasium where lots of children from poor families of the prefecture found shelter.
The whole area is graced with natural beauty. An impressive hiking trail you could follow, however, is the canyon of “Mavri Spilia” that is located 1,6 kilometers south of Prousos. Along the path you will meet ponds with water as well as a huge cave that served as a shelter and warehouse during the Turkish Occupation.
