This is an impressive natural formation, accessed by a fairly poor road. But the wild beauty of the landscape more than compensates the nature loving visitors, who are many during the summer months. Krikelliotis, the small river springing from north of the village Krikello, flows here in the narrow valley with the precipitous slopes and cliffs.
Part of its flow, between the villages Paska and Psiana, passes through a narrow canyon with vertical rocky walls, very high in places. The southern side of the canyon is the culmination of peak Platanaki, a sheer and fairly inaccessible mountain, with steep slopes, dark gullies and dense fir forests, which is part of the Panaetolikos complex. The north side of the canyon is the culmination of mount Kaliakouda. There are a lot of waters flowing to the canyon from this part, which fall from a height onto it. Some of this water is scattered into the air, forming drizzles and dewdrops. In a narrow part of the canyon, Krikelliotis’ waters have corroded so deep into geological time the rocks on the sides of the riverbed that they have shaped a kind of loggia, like in open roofed caves. Above it, a lot of water flows into the canyon, hits the rock and dribble all along the length of the roof. In this part of the riverbed it always rains, even during the summer period, when the flux is considerably reduced. River trekking through the riverbed is relatively easy even for the uninitiated and fairly short. Easiest access to the area is from the village Roska, which can be reached from Domnista. Access is also furnished from the mountainous trail of Kalliakouda, but this is more demanding.
