If you can't stand low temperatures, avoid visiting the area from November till March.
During the summer, avoid wandering around the countryside in the afternoon, since this is the time when the mosquitoes of Evros pop in. Although, they are not the only creatures "sucking our blood", they can be really annoying! You should definitely have an anti-mosquito cream and ammonia with you.
