- If you climb up to the castle of Assos during summer time make sure you bring water along. The experience without it might be excruciating.
- Drive carefully on the twisty roads. At some points the elevation is high, and there are no safety barriers.
- Although in most respects the view of the island is spectacular, not all are appropriate for a photo-op or rest stop. Be sure to stop in places specially designed for this purpose so that you and passing cars remain safe.
- Be sure to obtain enough gasoline if you are planning to drive for a long distance. The gas stations on the island are few, and running out of it isn’t one of the best experiences.
- Swim with caution on the beach of Myrtos. Sea deepens abruptly and due to sediment in suspension, the turquoise waters have an opaque not clear translucence. So you better leave masks and flippers in the car and make sure not too far from the coast because you might be carried away by rip currents.
- The cave where the hermit St. Gerasimos located in the old chapel of the monastery is not recommended for claustrophobics.
