Kefalonian gastronomy is a great example of the characteristic Mediterranean diet, featuring almonds and vine-products. The mild, rainy winters and hot summers are the ideal climatic conditions for these productions, whose products are known throughout the world. The ‘robola’ wine, with its fruity aroma, is a trademark of the island from antiquity, the god Dionysus, residents held a special place among the Twelve Gods (Dodekatheon). The tasty almonds are the basis for all sorts of delicacies: amygdalopites (almond pies), almond liqueur and of course the famous nougat. Delicious caramelized almonds thanks to red color substance added, like children's candy. Besides the above, Kefalonia is famous for the excellent quality of its oliveoil, honey and delicious white cheese prepared by traditional cheesemakers . Finally, do not leave the island if you have not tried one of the many different kinds of pies made by the ladies of Kefalonia, will amaze you with its originality and flavor of the filling.
