This large altar is located near Ancient Agora, dating back to the mid-second century. In 142 A.D. an earthquake caused damages to the temple. Many centuries later, the Knights Hospitallers of St. John used parts of it for the construction of the castle. The frieze of the altar is decorated with scenes from the battle of the Amazons, as well as with Dionysus and his escort. The frieze is now kept in the museum of the castle. A Hellenistic Doric temple, which also seems to be dedicated to Dionysus, is located next to the altar.
