Kileler or Kypseli is known for the revolution of the slaves against the landowners on the 6th March 1910. The slave’s demand was to equally apportion the lands of the area. Their revolution is famous as it overthrew this regime that dated back to the Turkish occupation and led to a more fair apportion of the lands. Events take place every year at the Farmer’s Monument in order to commemorate this revolution.
It was an independent municipality till 2010, when it joined the municipality of Larisa according the “Kapodistrias” law. The area and in particular the village Platykampos is also known for another tragic event: 54 people were executed by the Nazis on the 13th of October 1941.
In the folk museum of Kileler, the visitor can be informed about the way of life of the residents of the plain of Thessaly during the 18th century, through exhibits such as utensils, wefts, local apparels as well as objects of the social and family life. A similar museum is open for the public in Nees Karyes and Nea Lefki.
The area is 22 kilometers away from Larisa (through the National Road Athens-Thessaloniki). It is also accessible by train or bus.
