Access

By boat: There are frequent routes (4-6 times every week) of boats departing from Piraeus port arriving to the two ports of the island, Vathi and Karlovasi after 8-10 hours. Samos is also connected to the ports of Ikaria, Cyclades, Dodecanese, North Aegean but also the Turkish Kusadasi port, with daily routes.
 
By plane: The airport of the island is located outside Pythagorio. Four weekly flights connect the island to Athens and two to Thessaloniki at northern Greece, as well as Rhodes, Chios, Mytilene and Limnos airports. The flight lasts about 30-45 minutes. During the summer period, tourists are also served by direct international routes arriving in Samos.

Local transportation

You can get around many areas of the island with the bus lines of Samos. However, the buses are not frequent, not even during the summer period. There are plenty of itineraries connecting the big cities (Vathi, Karlovasi) with the villages, though.
