The small village Drakei is located about six kilometers from Kallithea and is the westernmost village of Mount Kerkis. This village is located among dense pine forests and according to many people it is one of the most beautiful villages of Samos. A small dirt road leads to the wonderful beaches of Megalo and Mikro Seitani, which are protected as areas of rare natural beauty and as a national forest because of the natural environment and the fact that the endangered species of monk seal monachus monachus gives birth on this beach. The coastal settlement Agios Isidoros is also a part of Drakei, with few inhabitants and the last remaining shipyard on the entire island, Tarsanas.
The wooden boats created by the Samians, called “Samenes” (which also gives the name to the wine variety “golden samena”) used to travel all around the Aegean Sea. So, Tarsanas in Agios Isidoros is a special place of great cultural and historical value for the island.
