An archaeological museum couldn’t be missing from Pythagorio, the city of ancient Samos. Ruins of the ancient world are obvious in any corner of the city, from the palaestrae and Necropolis to the Tunnel of Eupalinos and the Polykrateia Walls. The building of the museum has been inaugurated in 2010. It includes findings from different archaeological periods (Archaic, Roman, Hellenistic), which have been discovered by the excavations. The collection of Roman Emperors’ statues, like Trajan, Augustus and Claudius is quite interesting. The collection of findings from the geometrical Necropolis and the collection of the 27 silver coins are also interesting. Video excerpts of the excavation works that are carried out in the city of Pythagorio are projected on the roof.
Opening hours: Summer: Tuesday - Sunday 09:00 -16:00. The museum is closed on Mondays.
