Rivers’ names: The Pineios River crosses the Trikala Prefecture. Peneus, son of Okeanos and Tithia, was a river god, who settled in Thessaly and the river was named after him. Pineios tributary Lithaios, which crosses the city of Trikala, was named after the son of Lethe. Nymph Trikki as well as Asclepius were born at its banks. Nymph Trikki was the goddess of medicine and the city of Trikala was named after her. Asclepius was the first doctor and the king of Trikki.
The flood of Deucalion: According to the mythological report of the flood, the mythical king Deucalion with his wife Pyrra drove ashore their ark on the top of Parnassus Mountain in Thessaly, when the water level subsided. From the top of the mountain and as Zeus has ordered they threw some rocks behind them from which humans were born. According to the general belief, those rocks are related to the rock pillars of Meteora.
