Meteora are known worldwidely for the inexhaustible climbing routes and their irreproachable organisational infrastructure.
The rock: The rock is unique in Greece. The rock is conglomerate with a lot of either small or big gravel compacted in a uniform mass. Attention and experience is required for the choice of more sound steps and holdings. In general, in the classic routes the most of the more unsound gravel have already fallen and the remaining are very stable. The climber however should be careful to stay in the designed route. In the new routes the unsound gravel are more.
Permanent safeties: The safeties are as few as possible less. Specifically in easy routes up to 5th - 6th degree, the distances between the safeties are often 5 - 10 m. The more difficult routes are usually well secured. There are also however certain educational, densely secured routes. Is required, therefore careful study of the climbing directory before the climber begins for the carrying-out of any route.
