Descendant of the Byzantine town of Vira, which was founded in the early 12th century AC, the town of Feres is located 29km to the northeast of Alexandroupolis, and has a population of 5.206 inhabitants. The artistic and cultural heritage of Byzantium is strongly sensed here; with a prime sample the church of Panagia Kosmosotira, which was rebuilt in 1152 AC by the reverend Isaac Komninos. From the church’s belfry, you can admire the view to the Delta of Evros River, which is breathtaking. At the Feres Municipality Tourist Centre you can organize your visit at the river’s Delta, as well as a boat trip which will surely be forever embedded in your memory.
