With 820 residents, the little settlement of Makri, which is very close to Alexandroupolis, manages to intrigue the interest of many visitors, especially during the summer due to its beaches. Having been constantly inhabited until today, it preserves its picturesqueness with the sparse traces of Byzantine forts, whereas during the 17th century the stream that crosses it gave energy to 12 watermills. At the square, next to the ruins of a Byzantine church, now stands the towering temple of Agia Anastasia, built in 1834. Taking the rural road, you will find yourselves at the little port of Makri, an ideal point to enjoy moments of relaxation. While on your way you will encounter the Cyclops’s Cave.
