This grand Byzantine church, build in 1152 by reverend Isaac Komninos, embellishes the town of Feres. From its walls and the 6 towers surrounding it, only a big part of the walls and one of the towers (used as a belfry nowadays) have been preserved. In the 14th century when the town was occupied by the Ottomans, the monastery had a similar fate to that of Agia Sofia, since the iconographies were covered in mortar and the church was used as a mosque. The church’s service takes place normally in our days, but the number of the restored iconographies is too small. The legend says that there is an underground hutch in the church leading to the Delta of Evros, while it is said that its founder is buried in its parvis.
