Another temple worth visiting in the vicinity of Amfissa, this small Byzantine church dating from the 11th century has survived in excellent condition. Guests can check the time on the two sundials that are built into the walls of the small church.
It would be impossible for Galaxidi not to have one of the most impressive churches of the prefecture, and there’s no way the city’s greatest church wouldn’t be dedicated to St. Nikolaos, patron saint of sailors. The elaborately carved wooden altar is the greatest gem of this church.
Every year many people flock to this old monastery. Formerly a convent, now a temple of unique beauty.
A remnant of the glorious Byzantine period, it’s an archetypal specimen of the art of a bygone era. At the door of the ramshackle church is inscribed the dedication: 1332, during the reign of Andronikos Palaiologos.
