Even the name sounds melodious when pronounced. Fiskardo is without rival the most beautiful village of Kefalonia. Its Ionian-style mansions are the only ones on the island to have survived the earthquake of 1953, and its port is among the first choices for sailors to moor their yachts. Fiskardo, this small remnant of pre-earthquake Kefalonia, makes us feel melancholy to think that the other villages of the island once were equally resplendent before the strike of Enkelados (theTitan responsible for earthquakes) devastated the island. Two-storey mansions in pastel colors, with small ornate balconies, gardens with bougainvillea, and narrow streets make this famous Kefalonian destination a favorite for both Greeks and foreigners arriving either by yacht or by car. A walk along the seafront promenade, a swim at the nearby beaches of Foki and Emblysi, fresh fish in the numerous tavernas bordering the sea – Fiskardo, although small in size, offers a wide range of leisure options.
