The particular morphology of the island has created a series of small geological wonders that adorn and give a special aura to the island. Besides the numerous small caves formed into the rocks on most beaches, and a series of small caves at the foot of Mount Ainos and other smaller mountains, Kefalonia boasts a real cave with stalagmites and stalactites. The Drogarati cave, situated on the outskirts of the village Katapodata, is a geological monument and a favorite destination of nature lovers. Perhaps somewhat difficult to pronounce, asking for directions will be the hardest part of your journey, as access to the spot is quite simple. Located only 3 km on the road from Sami to Antisamos, it has ample parking space. At a depth of 60 meters, the atmosphere inside the cave overwhelms the visitor: the eerie golden color covering the walls, the absolute silence, the cool 18℃ where the temperature drops. The main hall has incredible acoustics, so don’t be surprised if you see a podium for concerts in the middle. Yes, the site is a venue for unforgettable concerts! A visit to the cave, especially during the summer months, is a must. If you have small children with you, they will feel excited like small explorers journeying into the center of the earth, getting to know these geological wonders up close.
