Near Ierapetra and the exit of the Pefki Gorge is the village of Makrigialos. This village became incredibly popular the last years, mainly due to its wonderful beaches with calm, crystal clear waters. Actually, there were two separate settlements, Makrigialos and Analipsi, which have now merged in one. In the area, you can visit the remains of the Roman villa of the 2nd century AD and the Minoan villa in Plakakia village. There are taverns, cafeterias, and shops for everything you might need.
