This is a small Minoan town, located between Agios Nikolaos and Ierapetra. The name is not very popular, but it is the most fully excavated Minoan settlement in Crete. It flourished between 1550-1450 BC, when it was probably destroyed by an earthquake. The posterior Minoan town was excavated by Harriet Boyd in the early 20th century. On the hill, above the town, were found a small palace, a theater and an altar. The excavations unearthed the small settlement of ancient Crete, with lots of tools and a sewage system.
