Built at the heart of the Selinari gorge, this monastery is very well-known. In fact, the locals consider it a sign of bad luck if someone passes by without stopping to light a candle. It is located on the national highway connecting Heraklion with Agios Nikolaos and for that reason, welcomes a lot of visitors. It is said that a monk from Rhodes built a small chapel, which still exists. You can combine your visit to the monastery with a nice walk through the lush green gorge and its springs.
