It is a small heavenly islet just south of Ierapetra, also known as Gaidouronisi. Even though it is uninhabited, during summer daily boat itineraries transfer hundreds of visitors from Ierapetra to Chrissi.
The fragrance of the cedar trees, which cover the whole island forming one of the largest and rarest forests, mixed with the scent of the sea hovers in the atmosphere, while the trees in artistic formations adorn the snow-white sandy beaches to the north. The island used to be a destination for lots of people longing to spend their vacation away from civilization, since the only sign of civilization is one taverna.
Nowadays it is not allowed to stay overnight on Chrissi, and at all events we should show the utmost respect to this unique oasis of nature, which took hundreds of years to evolve into its current state. As an indication, a cedar needs 50 years to grow just 1-2cm.
