This gorge extends from Ano Zakros to Kato Zakros, in the eastern part of the district. It was named after the findings of the Minoan tombs that were found in the caves of the gorge. It is easily accessible and the hiking takes around two hours. Crossing it might be a little more difficult in the winter due to the running waters that make the climbing down a bit more demanding. The climbing down of the gorge is the last part of the E4 trail, which emerges Portugal, crosses South Europe and ends in the eastern edge of Crete, Kato Zakros. It is more preferable to go down the gorge starting either from Ano Zakros or from the entrance on the road, 4km from the village (you should ask around for the entrance since there is no adequate signing) and end in the beautiful beach of Kato Zakros. You can return to Ano Zakros by bus after resting and enjoying a swim.
