Due to its luxuriant vegetation and the running waters, this gorge is transcendent. However, its main place of interest is a waterfall of 40m height that composes a breathtaking scenery. The gorge was named after the watermills that used to operate there once. The Milonas Gorge is located in Ai Gianni of Ierapetra and ends near Kakia Skala beach, between the settlements of Koutsounari and Ferma, east of Ierapetra. There are two ways of approaching the gorge: The easiest one is by car, by which in 10-15 minutes after Ierapetra, on the main road Ierapetra-Makrigialos, you will see a plate "To Milonas waterfall" on your left. By following the path with the precise signing, you will arrive at the waterfall as indicated by the plates after 20 minutes of easy hiking in a verdurous trail. The difficult one, which needs caution not to lose the trail and can be dangerous if there are running waters, is to follow the river bed to Kakia Skala beach. In this case, the route will take two hours but the scenery is amazing.
