It is located in Myrina above the Romeikos Gialos and is one of the most well-preserved castles in the Aegean Sea. Several historical periods are evident in the castle: It was built during the Byzantine era and specifically in 1186, under the empire of Andronicus I Komnenos, and then was ruled by the Franks, the Genoese and finally the Ottomans, who also repaired it. Nowadays several ruins of the administrative buildings and the residences of the Ottoman guard, arcades, cisterns et al. are preserved. The visitors are advised to prefer the evening hours to visit the castle and wear sneakers since its stone paved alleys are slightly slippery.
