Limnos, a fertile wealthy and blessed land, has been known since antiquity for the production of remarkable local products. The cuisine of Limnos has influences from both Thessaloniki and Asia Minor. Among its most famous products are the following: wine, tsipouro, "flwmari"(noodles from milk, flour and eggs), the "aftoudia" (handmade pasta from flour, which is usually eaten when it is fresh), "kalathaki" (cheese), "melichloro" or "melipasto" cheese, honey made of thyme, "samsades" (flaky pastry wrapped in sesame and blanched with honey) and "venizelika", a kind of fondant with almond and white vanilla frosting. And since we are confident that if you taste all the above, you'll want to take them with you on your way back home... the "Kelari" in the port of Myrina sells all local products of Limnos at bargain prices, while the chain of the bakeries "Chrysafi" makes and sells all the local pastries.
