Sand is a common thing on the beach next to the sea; well, in Limnos you will encounter sand even on the mountain! The famous Ammothines or Pachies Ammous in common parlance compose a scenery that calls to mind a small desert, extended in 17 acres with scant vegetation and huge sand dunes. Ammothines is located in the northwestern part of the island, 3km from Katalakkos and within close distance from the beach of Gomati. The sand dunes embellished only by white sand lilies compose a unique landscape for an island of the Aegean Sea. If you are planning on visiting the area, wear sneakers and protect yourself from the sun.
