Asi Gonia is a village of only 600 inhabitants, who keep preserving their traditions and a special custom that takes place only here. On the 23rd of April, the feast day of the patron saint of the village Agios Georgios, the stock breeders gather their sheep outside the church of the village and, after the liturgy; they milk the animals and hand out milk to the attenders. If you find yourself in Rethymno during April, you can visit the village and participate in this bucolic custom. Although the village is located in the Prefecture of Chania, it is 35km from Rethymno and you can easily go there.
