This is a nunnery of impressive architecture, one of the oldest in Rethymno located only 5km from the city of Rethymno. Its architecture includes defensive characteristics and for its restoration it was awarded with the European Union Prize for Cultural Heritage for the conservation and preservation of architectural monuments, Europa Nostra. It has a small museum collection, while the nuns maintain painting workshops, embroidery and sewing, procuring for the revival and preservation of Cretan tradition. During your perambulation in the monastery, you will see the church of Agia Irini, the cells where the nuns live, the old olive mill as well as three smaller chapels.
