A museum that initially impresses with the building, in which it is housed. This building is the sacred precinct of Mastaba, "Igoumenio", with 9 domes and 13 cells, surrounded by plants that thrive in the Rethymnian land such as olive trees, salixes, platans, Cretan palm trees etc. In its inside, the visitor goes on a journey of 300 million years, through the paleontological changes in Crete. Its collections include fossils and endemic mammals. The biggest interest is attracted by the Cretan dwarf elephants, the Cretan deer and specifically the polymorphous deer and the dwarf hippotamuses. You will definitely be impressed by the changes that have occurred in the Cretan grounds.
