Just an hour from Rethymno, in Axos of Milopotamos lies a very special museum, its exhibits are wood carvings inspired by the Cretan folklore. Pieces from dried trees have been carved into shapes like the "Lyraris" (the lyre player), "Kritikos" (Cretan), "Papas" (priest), "Giagia and Pappous" (Grandma and Grandpa), while there are also several themes from the religious life and mythology. The most impressive about this museum is that the woodcarvings have been built in natural size or larger than this, while some are 3m in height.
Opening Hours: Daily 9:00-20:00 Tickets: Full: 5€, Reduced: 3€.
