Pythagorio was the ancient city of Samos, explaining why most of the ancient findings and archaeological sites of the islands are found there. One of which are parts of the ancient fortification, created during the government of the tyrant Polycrates, who also gave them his name, Polykrateia Walls. They were 6.430 meters long, protecting the ancient city of Samos, as they surrounded an area of 1.2 km². Even today, with a few ruins remaining, the visitor gets easily impressed.
