To the west end of the island, one of the most significant ports in Crete flourished during the 3rd and 4th century BC. Falasarna was probably named after the local nymph Falasarni and was a vigorous port for many years. However, it was conquered by the conterminous Polirinia and became its port after many years of war. The excavations revealed parts of the defensive walls, buildings and a throne, which is located at the entrance of Ancient Falasarna. Its citadel was built on top of the hill and its defensive walls are still visible. The most interesting thing about this city is its port, which is literally on land due to several geological alterations.
