With the sun setting on the horizon, the enjoyable sand of this beach, located at the westernmost part of the island, is a must-see, even if it is 75 kilometers from Chania. The long, wide beach hosts umbrellas and sunbeds at some points, as well as beach bars, but is nonetheless so big that spots are available for you to lay down your straw-mat undisturbed. In the middle of the beach and right above it are restaurants with delicious gemista (traditional food). At the northernmost point of the beach are the ruins of the ancient city, which was once an important harbor of the area. Westerly winds give rise to waves and therefore entering and exiting the water is difficult. The wind may also kick up sand, which can be disturbing.
