A really rare beach is located at the southeast of Chania, 75 kilometers from the town of Chania.  The route to get there is especially beautiful since it passes through a gorge, familiarizing the visitor with the occasionally wild beauty of the Cretan landscape.  However, a different sensation wins out at the beach. The white sand with the pink highlights, in combination with the turquoise waters, the cedar shadows and the almirikia (small green trees) gives a special pleasantness to the place.  A narrow strip of cool water divides the main beach from the small island on which a composition of the previously mentioned beauty prevails. Half of the island has an exotic beauty with its characteristic white sand, whereas the western section is inhospitably rocky.  Elafonisi is an unforgettable beach, especially if you visit it out of season when it isn’t swarmed with people.  During the quiet periods of the year the beach reveals its comeliness which makes a stay here indelible in the memory.
