Following the coastline to the right one beach succeeds the other, offering choices for all tastes. Close by lies the beach of Nea Chora which is basically located in the city, and the Golden Coast follows, with its lovely sand and the beaches of Agion Apostolon with their racketball and beach volleyball courts. Nearby, about 9 kilometers from Chania, is the beach of Agia Marina with its beautiful sand and turquoise waters. Next is the beach of Platania which is similarly beautiful. Both beaches have a view of the opposite island “Thodorou”. The island’s residents, which may not be visible to the naked eye, are the famous wild goats of Crete, the Kri-Kri. Platanias has been a tourist resort for decades now and a vacation choice for travelers of all ages. The above mentioned beaches are all organized with beach bars, restaurants and numerous hotels. Quiet, with moderate to non-existent tourist development, describes the beach of Maleme, which is a good choice for one to enjoy the same kind of beach (sand, clear waters; near Chania, about 18 kilometers from the city), but in a quiet environment.
