Located near Peratata, in the middle of a verdant valley estate, is the most beautiful monastery on the island. The nickname of the patron saint of the monastery derives from the rare variety of trees found in the area, a cross of apple and pear trees, beneath which, according to tradition, the Icon of the Virgin Mary was found. This is a nunnery, where the nuns live and pray while also engaged in many other creative activities (e.g. icon-painting, weaving, etc.). The monastery was renovated in 1639 by a lady who had become a nun and donated all her property to the monastery, while adding to the precious treasures the relic of St. Andrew’s foot. The monastery church is a picturesque stone building of the Early Byzantine type, blending its cypresses and stone terraces with some personal space, meditation and relaxation. In the monastery there is also a museum with interesting exhibits, flawlessly presented.
Opening Hours: Monday - Sunday, 7:00 to 14:00 & 17:00 to 20:00.
