A city with two names. On the road from Komotini towards Xanthi and after the village of Iasmos you will meet the impressive wall of the ancient city. During the 6th century B.C it was named after the emperor Anastasios I, who fortified the city because of its strategic location near the Egnatia road. In the scripts dating back to the 9th century, you will encounter it with the name Perithrorion. The city was destroyed in 1203 but managed to recover until the Ottoman period. Unfortunately, the only thing that remains today is the wall as well as the cycle and 4-sided towers.
