Kompsatos is the most significant river of the prefecture. It starts in Xanthi prefecture on the peak of Rodopi mountain range and flows up to the lake Vistonida together with which they form one of the most important biotopes of Greece. Lots of birds live and reproduce there. The river is surrounded by oak trees, while it will be easy to find the typical Greek stone bridges.
