Without a doubt one of the most impressive open-air archaeological sites in Greece, and certainly one of the best in the world. What makes it so unique is not so much its numerous archaeological monuments, as the unprecedented combination of these monuments with the wilderness of Greek mainland. After a fairly long descent, the visitor is rewarded with the spectacle revealed in front of his eyes. Doric columns and arches seem buried in the rocks, and stairs and cobbled paths seem to lead up to the heavens.
The archaeological site of Delphi, though rough and a bit demanding, is really worth a visit. Some of the most famous monuments of the site are: the temple of Apollo, the Treasury of the Athenians, the polygonal wall at Delphi, the Treasury of Sifnos, the Stoa of the Athenians, the Ancient Theatre, the Iera Odos (Sacred Way), the ancient Gymnasium, the Ancient Stadium, the Castalian Fountain and the Tholos of Athena Pronaia. The site features shady places and fountains at regular intervals for visitors during the summer months. Looking down from above, it is tempting to believe that this place truly is the center of the Earth.
Hours: Daily, 8:00 to 15:00 (Last admission 14:15)
